The curvature of the internal geometry can
be highly dependent on the type of interpolation - here the difference
between similar and parallel curvature are shown. Although the
bedding geometries are nearly identical, the curvature patterns
are distinct.

The
curvature itself can be analyzed at different spectral wavelengths to
isolate and/or prevent the obscuring of structures at different scales
of observation. For example, in the complex parallel geometry shown here,
for very small wavelengths measurable curvature only exists in the concentric
areas on the convex sides of bends - elsewhere the curvature is zero or
infinite.
|
However,
by increasing the measurement wavelength, the curvature of larger scale
structures can be isolated and effectively displayed, allowing easy correlation
with outcrop, seismic, log, or production attributes.
